Men and women who are in good health, have skin that has retained some elasticity, and who have a well-defined facial bone structure are good candidates for a facelift and neck lift. Most people who get facelift and necklift surgery are between the ages of 40 and 70 years.

Your Consultation for Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery

During your consultation for a facelift and neck lift, Dr. Yugueros will discuss your desires, expectations, and concerns as well as limits and risks of the procedure. She will review your medical history and carefully examine you, with careful attention to your face and neck. She also will consider your skin type when evaluating you for the procedure. She will then take pictures of your face and neck.

The Facelift and Neck Lift Procedure

The facelift / neck lift procedure involves tightening and smoothing fatty tissue, muscle, and skin around the jaw line, neck, and cheeks to eliminate or dramatically reduce wrinkles and folds.The extent of a facelift and neck lift depends on individual needs and desires.

Facelift and neck lift incisions are usually hidden in the hairline or behind the ears so that scars are minimal or rarely visible. Excess skin and fatty tissue is removed, and the overlying skin is then gently tightened and stitched into place.

Facelift / neck lift is performed under general anesthesia and takes 4 to 6 hours. Most patients stay overnight in the hospital.

Dr. Yugueros might recommend that you have a middle-facelift (or mid-facelift) to correct hallowing beneath your lower eyelids and eliminate or reduce the folds that run from the base of your nose to the outer corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). The mid-facelift helps create a smoother transition between the lower eyelids and upper cheeks. Mid-facelift can be combined with a standard facelift for an outstanding and overall improvement in your face.

Mid-facelift involves an incision beneath the lower lid lash that extends out to the lateral eye area. The procedure can cause bruising and swelling for 1 to 2 weeks. Some patients’ eyes take on an almond shape for several weeks until swelling subsides and the eye area relaxes.

Facelift and Neck Lift Recovery and Results

After your facelift and neck lift surgery, Dr. Yugueros will give you detailed instructions about how to care for yourself to heal properly.

You will have bandages on your incisions. Most patients are permitted to go home once bandages have been changed the day after surgery.

Dr. Yugueros will instruct you to sleep propped up for a few days to reduce swelling. She also will give you a supportive chinstrap to wear for several weeks as you heal.

You will have minor swelling, bruising, and pain or discomfort after your facelift and neck lift surgery. Dr. Yugueros will recommend oral over-the-counter or prescribe medication to manage your discomfort for the first few days after surgery. Your stitches will be removed a week or 2 after your surgery. Sometimes the stitches are removed in stages.

Within 2 to 3 weeks, your swelling and bruising should subside. You also might feel some tightness and/or numbness for days to weeks after your procedure. You should be able to return to work and normal, nonstrenuous activities within 2 weeks.

Dr. Yugueros will advise you not to wear makeup for about a week. You also should not dye your hair for a couple of months after a face lift, and you must be careful to wear sun block daily for at least 6 months (and ongoing for best skin care) after your procedure.

Dr. Yugueros will ask that you schedule follow-up visits with her off and on for about a year.

Although you will see immediate results, the final, outstanding results of your facelift and neck lift procedure will be visible after several months, after your swelling has subsided significantly.

Although the results following a facelift and neck lift are long lasting, some people consider an additional procedure to retighten the face after 5 to 10 years.
