WHAT IS LIPOTHERME?
If you are considering liposuction, then you also should know about Lipotherme™ (or laser-assisted liposuction)!
Lipotherme is a safe, minimally invasive, Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved, leading-edge laser treatment to selectively target and eliminate unwanted fat deposits, reduce cellulite, and tighten skin.
Luna Plastic Surgery
the lipotherme procedure
Lipotherme™ involves the use of a unique heat-generating laser (or thermal) technique to break up and remove excess fat. The technique also stimulates collagen production, which encourages skin tightening and smoothing.
During the Lipotherme™ procedure, Dr. Yugueros will insert a small metal tube (or cannula) under the skin and apply heat from a tiny laser beam to liquefy fat tissue. She will then suction the liquefied fat cells.
The procedure involves only very tiny incisions that are closed with dissolvable stitches.
Dr. Yugueros can use Lipotherme™ to eliminate fat deposits in and refine your:
- Abdomen
- Waist
- Back
- Thighs
- Hips
- Chin
- Neck
- Knees
- Arms
- Ankles
Lipotherme™ also has been used in men with enlarged breasts (or gynecomastia) to reduce the size of the breasts and create a masculine appearance.
Although the Lipotherme™ laser-assisted liposuction procedure can tighten skin more than traditional liposuction, it will not replace surgical skin tightening. If you have loose skin that does not shrink to fit its new contours after Lipotherme, Dr. Yugueros will recommend procedures such as tummy tuck, buttock lift, thigh lift, or arm lift for a more polished overall look.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR LIPOTHERME?
The best candidates for Lipotherme are men and women who are at a healthy and stable weight but have areas of excess fat that do not respond to weight loss and exercise.
Lipotherme™ is not a substitute for weight loss or exercise.
your consultation for lipotherme
During your consultation for Lipotherme, Dr. Yugueros will explain the procedure as well as its limits and risks. She also will help you establish realistic expectations for your results. She will then review your medical history and examine you with consideration for your body mass index (BMI) to determine whether Lipotherme™ is right for you.
recovery and results from lipotherme
Recovery time from Lipotherme™ depends on the extent of your procedure as well as your skin type and metabolism. Because Lipotherme™ treatment is gentler than traditional liposuction, swelling and bruising are minimal. You also might experience numbness in the treated areas that will resolve over time (usually within several weeks).
After your Lipotherme™ treatment, Dr. Yugueros will give you a compression garment that fits well under normal clothing to wear over the treated areas for about 6 weeks.
You will be able to return home the day of your Lipotherme™ treatment. Most patients can return to light-to-moderate activities the day after their procedure. Some patients find they can resume vigorous activities, including exercise, after only a few days.
You will see immediate improvements in the areas treated with Lipotherme™. For example, the size of the treated area will be smaller. Although even greater improvements will become apparent in as little as a week or 2 as swelling and bruising subside, the most dramatic results are obvious 12 to 16 weeks after treatment.
Results of Lipotherme™ are long lasting if you maintain a healthy and stable weight.
