Who is a Candidate for Eyelid Lift Surgery?
Most people who have eyelid surgery are aged 35 years or older; but you can have the surgery at any age if you have inherited drooping eyelids or bags under your eyes.
Your Consultation for Eyelid Lift
If you are considering eyelid lift, Dr. Yugueros will discuss your expectations and concerns as well as the limits and risks of the procedure. After reviewing your medical history and understanding any special issues with your eyes, she will examine your eyes and eyelids and take pictures of your face.
The Eyelid Lift Procedure
Eyelid lift usually involves the removal of excess fat, skin, and muscle. You will be given local anesthesia and intravenous sedation so that you will remain awake, but be relaxed and unable to feel pain. Blepharoplasty usually last less than 2 hours.
Depending on your needs, Dr. Yugueros will perform one of several different surgical techniques to achieve outstanding results for your eyelid surgery. In some cases, she might use laser techniques to achieve the outcome you want without the need for incisions. If you have incisions for your eyelid lift, they will be small and cleverly place in your eyelid creases where you will not feel or see your scars.
To tighten and reduce wrinkles in the lower part of the face, you may combine a face and neck lift with your eyelid surgery for an overall refreshed look.
EYELIFT RECOVERY AND RESULTS
Dr. Yugueros will give you detailed instructions to prepare for and recover from your eyelid surgery. You might have discomfort after eyelid surgery, but in most cases it is minimal and temporary. You can take oral over-the-counter or prescription medications if needed to ensure your comfort the first few days after your surgery.
For the first few nights, you may need to sleep propped upright to reduce swelling around your eyes. You also might be given an ointment and/or eye drops to put in your eyes for a few days.
You will have some swelling and bruising after eyelid surgery, but it usually resolves within 10 to 14 days. Dr. Yugueros will remove your stitches within 4 to 7 days after your surgery. You should be able to return to work and normal activities after about 2 weeks. You will be able to wear contact lenses and eye makeup after about 2 weeks.
