Pregnancy, nursing, gaining and losing weight, and the effects of age and gravity can cause your breasts to lose volume, change shape, and sag. Unsightly stretch marks and enlarged areoli (the dark skin around the nipple) often accompany sagging breasts.
Many women suggest that having droopy breasts, stretch marks, and enlarged areoli make them feel older, less confident, and less attractive.
The good news is that breast lift (or mastopexy) can be used to raise, reshape, and firm your sagging breasts; eliminate and reduce some of your stretch marks; and reposition your areoli to help make you look more beautiful and feel more confident!
Skilled plastic surgeon,
Patricia Yugueros, MD uses the most up-to-date breast lift techniques to give you the firmer, beautiful-looking breasts you desire!
Dr. Yugueros is adept at breast lift with or without implants to:
- Correct sagging breasts and raise them higher on your chest
- Tighten the skin and increase the firmness of your breasts
- Correct uneven or deformed breasts
- Increase your breast size
- Add breast volume lost from aging, weight loss, breastfeeding, and pregnancy
Some patients combine breast lift with breast reduction for smaller, perkier, younger-looking breasts.
Are you a candidate for breast lift surgery?
If you are unhappy with your sagging breasts, are in good health, and do not plan on becoming pregnant, you are a good candidate for breast lift surgery!
If you have small, sagging breasts, you might be an excellent candidate for breast lift alone. If you have large breasts, you might need breast lift combined with breast reduction to prevent additional sagging. If you have small, sagging breasts that have lost volume over the years, you may choose breast lift with implants to enhance the size and firmness of your breasts.
During your consultation, Dr. Yugueros will examine you and ask you how you would like your breasts to look. She will then make recommendations that are appropriate for your age, the size and shape of your breasts, condition of your skin, and overall anatomy. She also will tell you what you can expect before, during, and after your procedure, including limits and risks.
The Breast Lift Procedure
The surgical technique and location of incisions depends on your anatomy and the amount of lift needed to achieve your desires. For example, if you have relatively small breasts and minimal sagging, you might be a candidate for smaller incisions. But most breast lift procedures involve an incision around the areola, with a vertical incision from the bottom of the areola, going down the lower part of the breast to the natural crease below the breast.
The vertical incisions allow Dr. Yugueros to remove excess skin and lift the breast tissue higher on the chest. If necessary (as is often the case), she will then reposition the nipple and areola higher on the breast for a more central, natural-looking, and youthful location on the breast mound.
If you are having breast augmentation with your breast lift, your implant will be placed in a pocket under the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall.
Breast lift usually takes 2 to 3 hours. It is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. Breast lift is an outpatient procedure.
Most breast lift patients can go home a few hours after surgery. Dr. Yugueros will instruct you to wear an elastic bandage or surgical bra over gauze dressings. She will tell you how and when to change the dressings.
Bruising and soreness after breast lift is usually minimal and lasts for a few days. Swelling can last a few weeks to several months. You can take oral over-the-counter or prescription medication to manage your discomfort when necessary.
Most breast lift patients return to work within a week or 2; but you must wear a surgical bra and limit your activities for several weeks to a month. In addition, you must sleep only on your back and avoid strenuous activities or heavy lifting for a few weeks after surgery.
Even after a breast lift, gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight fluctuations can loosen the skin on the breasts and cause them to sag. Women who have implants with their breast lift may enjoy longer-lasting results.
You will be able to see the outstanding results of your breast lift immediately after your surgery; however, your final results will appear gradually as swelling subsides.
Although scars from breast lift are visible, most women find the scars fade considerably over time depending on skin type.
To preserve the beautiful results of your breast lift, you should always wear a supportive bra and keep your weight stable.
