Thigh Lift at Johns Creek

WHAT IS A THIGH LIFT?

Aging, weight loss, and gravity can cause the skin of the inner and outer thighs to lose tone, dimple, and sag. With age, fat also can collect in the thighs.

For most people, weight loss and exercise do not help tighten all the skin of the thighs. Liposuction can improve the contour of the thighs, but only thigh lift (also known as thighplasty) will tighten the skin and create smooth, younger looking thighs.

Are you a candidate for thigh lift?

If you are in relatively good shape but have loose skin or excess fat in your inner and on your outer thighs, you are a good candidate for this procedure!

If you intend to lose 10 or more pounds, however, you should wait to have thigh lift surgery until you reach a healthy weight for your height.

Your Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Yugueros will discuss your desires, expectations, and concerns as well as review your medical history. She will then examine your thighs to assess your skin tone and recommend a thigh lift alone or a thigh lift combined with liposuction. Dr. Yugueros will thoroughly explain the procedure to you so that you know what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

Thigh Lift Procedure

This surgery takes approximately 2 hours. It often begins with liposuction, followed by the removal of excess skin. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia.

Although the length and location of the incisions is based on the amount of tissue that must be removed, lifted, and tightened, Dr. Yugueros will do everything possible to minimize your scars. For example, the incision often can be made in the groin crease to hide the scar.

For best results on some people, outer thigh lift often can be combined with a lower body lift and buttock lift. Both procedures take more time and require a longer hospital stay.

Recovering From Thigh Lift Surgery

Dr. Yugueros will give you thorough instructions to prepare for and recover from your thigh lift. Her instructions will include ways to ensure proper healing and when you should return for your follow up appointments.

Your incisions will be covered with bandages, and your legs may be wrapped in elastic bandages or compression garments to minimize swelling. A small, thin tube might be placed under the skin temporarily to drain excess blood or fluid. The fluid is sometimes injected into your body during liposuction to decrease blood loss. Dr. Yugueros and her nurse will tell you how to put on fresh bandages and when you should return to have your stitches removed.

Most people who have thigh lift surgery leave the hospital 4 to 6 hours after the procedure. If your surgery is being combined with a lower body and buttock lift, you will have to stay in the hospital longer.

After your surgery, the nursing staff will encourage you to walk during the first 48 hours to improve your circulation.

Two or 3 days after surgery, you will visit the Luna Plastic Surgery Center so that Dr. Yugueros can remove your bandages, examine your incisions, and make sure you are healing properly. You will have additional follow-up visits so that Dr. Yugueros can monitor your progress.

You should avoid activities, especially squatting and climbing stairs that put pressure on or pull at your incisions. Dr. Yugueros will tell you when you can return to all your activities.

You are likely to have some bruising, swelling, and soreness for several days to a week after the procedure. You can take oral over-the-counter or prescription medications to manage your discomfort if necessary.

If your job does not require much activity, you might be able to return to work in 1 week. But if you must stand, walk, or lift heavy objects at work, you will probably need to wait 3 to 6 weeks before returning to work. You should avoid vigorous activities or aerobic exercises for at least 6 weeks.

Thigh Lift Results

You will immediately see the smoother, tighter contours from your thigh lift surgery. But it can take up to 6 weeks for all bruising and swelling to disappear.

Results from thigh lift are long lasting if you maintain a stable weight and stay fit. Over time, the natural effects of aging and gravity will cause your thighs to lose some firmness, but your thighs will always look better than they did before your surgery.
