Who is a candidate for breast revision surgery?
If you are in good health and you have had a previous breast surgery or breast augmentation procedure that you are not happy with for any reason, you are a candidate for breast revision surgery.
Your Consultation for Breast Revision
Your consultation for breast revision will include discussion about your expectations and desires. Dr. Yugueros also will address your concerns about the procedure, including its limits and risks. After examining you, she will tell you what she recommends to correct problems. She also will tell you about the different types and shapes of breast implants and recommend the breast implant and combination of techniques that will provide the best results for you.
Both saline and silicone implants are proven safe and offer outstanding results in breast revision surgery.
The Breast Revision Procedure
Depending on your needs and desires, breast revision can involve removing an old or ruptured implant and replacing it with a larger or smaller implant. But breast revision also can involve the removal of scar tissue, resizing one or both breasts, and lifting one or both breasts to create an even, beautiful result. In some cases, a new pocket for the implant might be created to restore a natural feel and appearance to your breasts.
Some breast revision surgery can be performed through your previous scars; but additional incisions often are necessary, especially particularly if excess skin must be removed.
If you have had implants for a long time, Dr. Yugueros will likely recommend replacing them at the time of your breast revision procedure.
Recovery and Results From Breast Revision
Recovery from breast revision is just like that of recovery from your initial breast augmentation procedure. For example, Dr. Yugueros will give you thorough instructions to prepare for and recover from your breast revision surgery. Her instructions will include ways to heal properly and when to follow up.
Most breast revision patients go home within a few hours after the procedure. Dr. Yugueros will apply dressings to your incisions and wrap your breasts in bandages.
After surgery, you may feel sore for several days. If necessary, you can take oral over-the-counter or prescription medications to manage your discomfort. Just as with your previous breast surgery, bruising is usually minimal, but swelling can last for several weeks. For this reason, you will not be able to see the final results of your breast revision procedure for a few weeks. You will, however, see an immediate difference in the appearance of your breasts!
You should be able to return to work within a week after your surgery. As you are healing, you will need to wear a surgical bra and limit activities for several weeks. You should sleep only on your back and avoid lifting anything heavy or exercising vigorously for about a month. Regular examinations and routine mammograms can help ensure that any complications are detected and treated early.
